Dreaming of golden Sunshines and cobalt Mediterranean skies! The next best thing is a visit Distant, a Los Angeles boutique specializing in textiles and crafts from Turkish artisans.
Distant, a 3rd Street newcomer (athough I was also a loyal fan in their previous Silverlake digs) is quite the colorful gem. The owner sells beautiful Turkish textiles, tableware and pillows, which are perfect for the Bohemian Los Angeles home. Their handmade quality stands out in the intricate woven details. The patterns feel very contemporary, though some of the designs must be decades old. Most of the pieces are one of a kind, upcycled from antique blankets and rugs, and it feels like a Turkish Bazaar that has been well curated and brought to life in modern California.
The Camper store at the Grove has a beckoning display that outshines even the prettiest shoes. A Japanese artist created a red "foliage" landscape of leather that is organic and modern. The wall panels are textured with shades of red, providing a bold backdrop for the bold shoe displays. What a simple but beautiful idea!
